Integrative Oncology physician Dr. Thomas Lodi tells us how yoga, meditation, nature and a vegan diet have helped him maintain a healthy lifestyle. 
What color represents health to you and why?
Green- the earth is green. It represents the energy of captured sunlight.
What is your favorite scent of health?
The sea shore, jungle- unadulterated nature.
What’s your idea of a perfect morning?
I have 2. The first is waking up at 4am, doing yoga and meditation and then a colonic. Afterwards, making a green juice then walking in nature and swimming. The second is my first consultation with new patients and transferring enthusiasm and inspiration for health to people in need.

What’s your idea of a perfect afternoon?
Again I have two. Firstly hanging out after a nature walk with good friends, reading. The second is seeing my patients feeling better, seeing them happy and smiling.

What’s your idea of a perfect evening?
Reading, a good movie, philosophical discussion with friends and early to bed. I love early nights.
When in your life were you healthiest, and why?
In childhood I had youth on my side, with optimal growth hormone production. I became vegetarian at 14 and fasted a lot while travelling in my late teens and early twenties. I switched to a raw food diet in 2000 which has helped restore the energy of my youth.
What’s your definition of health?
Optimal functioning of the organism. 
What’s your favorite bodywork?
Deep lymphatic massage, because other than vigorous exercise it’s the only way of getting your lymphatics moving to help get rid of toxins.
What’s your favorite superfood?
Seaweeds- When eating raw they are so satisfying and grounding. You can never eat too much of them because your body tells you when you’ve had enough. They satisfy the munchies, give us the minerals we need and prevent us from eating things we don’t need.
What’s your favorite meditation practice?
Most mornings I spend 30 minutes to one hour with my personal mantra followed by kirtan chanting. I have 2 mantras. The first was given to me at 19, and the other was given to me by Amma when I was initiated by her 5 years ago.
What’s your favorite stress reliever?
Running and swimming, meditating, walking in nature.
What’s your favorite sleep aid?
Exercise then reading. I also like supplemental melatonin because of my age.
What’s the biggest health-related change
you’ve made in your life?

Going raw is the most profound and important.
What’s your biggest health-related challenge presently?
The fact that I’m still living in an urban environment.
