Salt
Salt is Not Your Enemy!
Throughout history, salt has been a cherished and sacred seasoning and is often featured in mythology. It is the most basic of seasonings yet, when used correctly, it is an ionic compound that balances our body’s fluids while helping the nervous and muscular systems work properly.

Natural table salt that comes from the depths of the sea and is dried in its pure rock form contains many minerals and beneficial trace elements.  Although salt has been used throughout history as a flavor enhancer and food preservative, its primary function is its ability to balance the body’s internal fluid levels. Water helps regulate internal fluids, controls pH balance and ensures communication throughout the nervous system. Even when we drink the necessary amount, without enough salt our water level can drop to a point below normal that is dangerous.

By the time most salt arrives on the table it has been so processed that it has become harmful. What has happened to the salt’s structure is important. The table salt we use today has been refined to the point that many minerals have been removed. It has been over processed and dried using radiation. This processing affects your metabolism and opens the door to a variety of illnesses.

The healthiest salts

The best alternative is to use natural sea and rock salts that haven’t been processed. Natural salts contain a combination of minerals from the sea which is similar to the mineral composition of the human body.

How much salt do we need?

The average adult needs 6-8 grams of salt per day. However, in hot weather or for those who perform heavy physical labor this amount can increase to up to 10 grams per day.  Our daily salt intake can actually be provided by the food we eat.  However the average person consumes more than 15 grams of salt per day. Excess salt consumption contributes to health problems such as obesity, inflammation of the kidneys, hypertension and hardening of the arteries.

  • The best source of salt is from our food.
  • Seaweeds are the best source of salt in a form that is most available to our body.
  • A balanced intake of salt improves circulation, increases libido, helps our nervous system work more effectively, balances our blood sugar and increases the level of oxygen in the blood.
